Headout

Privacy Policy

Effective 20 August 2026
Applies to Headout on iOS.

Headout: Daily Walk (“the app”) is a private walking-motivation app developed by Tamas Bereczki (“we”, “us”, “our”). The app is built so that we do not collect personal data, we do not operate any servers, and we do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs of any kind. Your walks are yours. This page explains the limited data the app stores on your device, the location it uses to run the core experience, and the Apple platform services it relies on.

1. Data stored on your device

Everything Headout records is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device frameworks (SwiftData and UserDefaults). This includes:

  • Your adventures — each completed walk’s date, duration, distance, steps, XP earned, and the start and destination coordinates.
  • The path you walked — the sequence of GPS points recorded during a walk, drawn back on the map in your history.
  • Progress — your level, XP and streak, all derived from your saved walk history.
  • App settings — such as map orientation and reminder preferences.

This data stays on your device. It is removed when you delete the app. We have no copy of it and no way to access it.

2. Location

Headout needs your location to work: to place a reachable checkpoint near you, to guide you toward it, and to detect when you arrive. Location is accessed through Apple’s Core Location framework only while you are using the app (“When In Use”), and is used entirely on your device to run the walk. Your location and the path you walk are not transmitted to us or any third party — they are saved locally as part of your own history.

To find reachable checkpoints and draw walking routes, the app uses Apple’s MapKit directions and mapping services. Your use of those services is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. You can review or revoke the app’s location permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

While a walk is actually in progress, location updates continue even when your screen is locked, so your distance and the path you walked keep being recorded accurately. iOS shows a blue indicator while this is happening. It stops the moment the walk ends — Headout never tracks your location in the background outside an active walk, and never requests “Always” access.

3. Health & steps

With your permission, Headout reads your step count from Apple Health for the time period of each walk, so your history shows the steps you actually took rather than an estimate. This is read-only: the app never writes any sample to Apple Health, and your Health data never leaves your device — it is not transmitted to us or to any third party, is never used for advertising, and is never shared with anyone.

If you decline Health access, or it isn’t available, the app estimates steps from the distance you walked instead and everything else works normally. You can review or revoke Health access at any time in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Headout.

4. Notifications

With your permission, Headout can send a gentle daily reminder to head out. These are local notifications generated and delivered on your device by Apple’s UserNotifications framework — no server is involved and no data about you is sent anywhere. You can turn reminders off in the app, or revoke the permission in iOS Settings at any time.

5. Purchases

Headout is free to use. Headout Pro is an optional paid upgrade sold by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit, available as a monthly or yearly subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase.

Apple processes the transaction. We never see or receive your payment method, billing address, or Apple Account details.

To manage entitlements — so a purchase unlocks Pro and is restored correctly on a new device — the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription infrastructure provider, as our data processor. RevenueCat is the only server Headout talks to. There is no account system: Headout does not create a profile for you, and RevenueCat identifies your install with an anonymous, randomly generated ID rather than your name, email, or Apple Account. Through this ID, RevenueCat receives and stores purchase and transaction data (product purchased, price, currency, purchase and expiration dates), device and app data (device type, OS version, app version, IP address, country/locale) needed to run the store correctly, and entitlement status. This data is used solely to grant and restore your Headout Pro entitlement, and is not used by us for advertising or tracking. It is handled under RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy and Data Processing Addendum.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and can be managed or cancelled at any time in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

6. What we do not do

  • No analytics, attribution, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs.
  • No advertising and no use of the IDFA (Advertising Identifier).
  • No developer-operated servers of our own, and no third-party tracking requests beyond RevenueCat’s handling of purchase data described in Section 5.
  • No accounts, sign-in, or user profiles.
  • No tracking across other apps or websites.
  • No sale or sharing of personal data — we have none to sell.

7. Children

Headout is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.

8. Your rights

We do not store or process your walk, health, or location data on any server — there is nothing on our side to access, export, correct, or delete for that data. You remain in full control on your device:

  • Delete individual adventures from your History at any time.
  • Delete the app to remove all of its local data from the device.
  • Manage location, notification and Health permissions in iOS Settings.

For the anonymous purchase data described in Section 5, RevenueCat is the processor and can be contacted directly, or through us at the address below, to exercise rights over that data.

If you are in the EEA or UK, laws such as the GDPR and UK GDPR may grant you rights including access, rectification, erasure, and portability.

9. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date at the top of this page.

10. Governing law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of Romania, without regard to conflict of law principles.
